Running out of space on your Legion Go? Upgrading your storage with a microSD card is super simple—especially if you’re using Steam. I recently installed a SanDisk 2TB micro SD card to make up for the storage I lost when I removed my 4TB SSD, and I took a few extra steps to move all my existing games over from my older 1TB card. Here’s a full walkthrough of how I added the new card

Step 1: Add the New 2TB Micro SD Card

From Big Picture Mode:

  1. Pop in the new microSD card into your Legion Go.
  2. Head into Settings from Big Picture Mode.
  3. Select Exit Big Picture Mode to switch to the desktop-style view.

In Desktop Mode:

  1. Click Steam in the upper-left corner.
  2. Go to SettingsStorage.
  3. Click “Add Drive”.
  4. When the Windows Explorer pop-up appears, navigate to your new micro SD card, then press Add.

Boom—Steam now recognizes your new card, and it’s ready to install games directly.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to how I transferred my games from the old 1TB card to the new 2TB card using Steam’s built-in storage management tools.

What You’ll Need

  • A USB hub with a high-speed micro SD card reader
  • Your Legion Go (or a compatible Steam Deck-style handheld)
  • Your old and new micro SD cards
  • Power adapter (important if you’re moving large games!)

Step-by-Step: Moving Games Between Micro SD Cards

1. Connect Your Old Micro SD Card

Using a USB hub, I connected my old 1TB micro SD card to my Legion Go via a card reader. Once the system recognized the card, I opened up the Steam Desktop Mode.

2. Open Steam Settings

  • Launch Steam in Desktop View.
  • Click on the Steam Menu in the top left corner.
  • Go to SettingsStorage.

3. Add the Old Micro SD Card as a Game Drive

  • In the Storage section, click “Add Drive”.
  • A Windows Explorer popup will appear.
  • Navigate to your old micro SD card.
  • Press “Select Folder.”

You’ll now see the old micro SD card appear in Steam’s Storage list, complete with the games installed on it.

4. Move Games to the New Micro SD Card

  • In the Steam Storage window, check the boxes next to the games you want to move.
  • Click the “Move” button at the bottom.
  • Select your new 2TB micro SD card as the destination.

Steam will begin transferring the selected games to the new card. Depending on the size of your library, this could take a while.

Pro Tips

  • Stay plugged in: Game transfers use a lot of power—make sure your device is charging.
  • Use a quality USB hub: Higher data transfer speeds mean less waiting.
  • Don’t interrupt the process—let Steam do its thing.

Final Thoughts

This process was much smoother than I expected, and now I’ve got plenty of space on my 2TB card to grow my game library. If you’re using a Legion Go, Steam Deck, or any device with micro SD support, this method can save you hours of redownloading.
