Steam Deck OLED Adds HDR Remote Play

Valve released a stable Steam Client update on September 1 that adds HDR streaming through Remote Play on Steam Deck OLED. The update also improves streaming color range across platforms and fixes several Remote Play issues. Steam now waits for recently closed games to finish syncing with Steam Cloud before shutting down, a useful change for players moving between a desktop and handheld. Additional improvements include clearer controller configuration options and a fix for a Linux crash involving suspend and resume after a controller disconnects. Valve re-released the client on September 6 with further fixes, including excessive CPU usage in certain library situations. Together, these changes improve streaming and everyday reliability without requiring new hardware.

Acer Reveals the Predator Atlas 7 and a Convertible Handheld Concept

Acer introduced the Predator Atlas 7 and Project DualPlay Mini at IFA 2026 on September 2. The Atlas 7 puts up to an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor behind a 7-inch, 1080p display. Project DualPlay Mini uses an 8-inch screen and a folding design that exposes a physical keyboard. Acer describes the convertible device as a concept, so it should not be treated as an announced retail release. The announcements explore both a smaller conventional handheld and a device that could make switching between gaming and typing more convenient.

Anbernic Introduces the RG DS Plus

Anbernic unveiled the RG DS Plus in a September 4 announcement, highlighting larger displays and changes to its dual-screen design. The handheld replaces the original RG DS’s two 4-inch, 640 × 480 screens with two 4.3-inch, 1024 × 768 displays. That resolution supports exact four-times scaling in each direction for Nintendo DS’s native 256 × 192 image. Other features include a customized Linux interface, lower-screen touch controls, screen swapping, and an integrated capacitive stylus. A redesigned hinge allows adjustment between 15 and 180 degrees. These changes address display clarity and touch-input convenience, although the announcement alone does not establish real-world emulation performance.
